In the healthcare field, difficult conversations come with the job. Helping professionals support patients and families as they navigate
complex decisions in stressful and emotionally heightened times. Social workers, nurses, case managers, counselors, and allied
providers are not immune to the heavy feelings that arise when talking with patients and families about sensitive health information.
What tools do we have in our toolbox as professionals? What tools are available to us through our interprofessional colleagues and the
systems in which we practice? How are we at risk of vicarious trauma and secondary traumatic stress? Join us for an inspiring
educational experience, where expert hospice and palliative care nurse, Jenny Buckley RN, BSN, will guide us through a full day of
thoughtful conversations on the ethical considerations surrounding communicating with patients, families, and loved ones by outlining
communication techniques and the art of having difficult conversations with patients and families. Including conversations with the
real-Life McDreamy and McSteamy, we will review clips from the riveting Netflix documentary series “Lenox Hill” – where viewers get a
front-row seat to the inner workings of a New York City hospital as cameras follow several physicians across multiple departments.
David Langer, MD and John Boockvar, MD from the series will join us to discuss supporting our interprofessional colleagues in
facilitating difficult conversations with patients and families.
