Overview
Karen McCleskey, a long-time CEU provider, was diagnosed with a Grade 4 (highest grade) malignant brain tumor in January 2022. Her life expectancy at this point is in the 12-month range, but this is just the statistics; it could be more or less. CEU Creations is collaborating with her friend Jane Dausner, LCSW, here in Atlanta. As Karen experiences more cognitive decline, she is needing more assistance, both financially and with her care. Her only income is her social security; her rent just went up, her truck needed tires, and her dog had to go to the vet. Her oncologist recently told her that she shouldn’t be driving anymore, and, of course, this was devastating. She will need to utilize driving services.

Please consider attending this event in support of Dr. McCleskey.

As we continue through the COVID-19 Pandemic waging a war on the healthcare system, those suffering some of the largest physical and emotional impacts are our frontline workers and those that interface with clients/patients on a regular basis. As helping professionals, it is critical that we educate ourselves on the unique challenges these frontline workers face, and ways that we can lessen the distress and build resilience. Jason Lesandrini, Assistant Vice President of Ethics, Advance Care Planning and Spiritual Health at a major Atlanta Health System, will start the session by looking at Moral Distress and “Ethics Narrative Therapy” – using writing as a practical solution to a challenging ethical problem. Mr. Lesandrini will guide us through a discussion of how we can use narratives to work through some of the ethical dilemmas we face – you will feel refreshed with a new perspective on ethics

By Attending Our Workshop, You Will Be Able To:

  • Describe two examples of moral distress in the healthcare setting
  • Identify the effects of moral distress on providers and client/patient outcomes
  • Demonstrate strategies for managing moral distress
  • Describe the tragedies and stressors during the pandemic
