Overview
Telemental Health (TMH) in recent years has become an increasingly popular and necessary way to provide services to clients with mental health and substance use disorders. It has been around in some manner or context from a historical perspective since the 1950’s. (National Center for Telehealth & Technology). Historically it has been considered one of the possible solutions to meeting the needs of clients who are in need of mental health and substance-related disorders treatment in rural cities in Alabama, Georgia, and other states across the country because of the shortage of mental health professionals. While many healthcare providers have been somewhat hesitant about fully implementing a telehealth program, the recent COVID-19 pandemic has forced them to utilize a technology platform to meet the needs of their clients. Healthcare providers have been working diligently since the COVID-19 Pandemic to utilize the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”) approved technology to render health care services to individuals who are in need of mental health and substance abuse services. This workshop will focus on helping professional licensed practitioners gain a comprehensive understanding of the importance of telemental health and treatment implications for the clients they serve.

By Attending Our Workshop, You Will Be Able To:

  • Identify and explain telehealth HIPAA rules and regulations that are to be implemented during the COVID -19 Pandemic according to federal government standards
  • Name the three levels of Telemental Health services and recommended certifications for practitioners
  • Identify key administrative forms that are needed to provide TMH (e.g. Telemental Health Informed Consent Communication Addendum, Business Associates Agreement legal form, etc.) and how to document clinical information for billing purposes
  • Summarize common legal and ethical dilemmas when providing these services
  • Name the specific duties and responsibilities of clinicians and supervisors providing telemental health services
